Wind turbines work best in windy environments, so a higher altitude location would be ideal. Hilltops, coastal areas, or open plains with consistent wind patterns would work well for the Icewind. Forests and other areas too dense with vegetation to allow for decent wind exposure would not work quite as well.

Why is the Icewind Turbine useful?

Wind, like solar, is a sustainable energy source that isn't dependent on mining or drilling. It's abundant, provided the conditions to utilize it are available. Wind is variable, stronger in certain regions during varying seasons and weaker in others, adding to the complexity of its useable potential.

Traditional wind turbines are horizontal, using a series of evenly spaced blades similar to an airplane propellor. These turbines coordinate with wind direction and must be strategically placed according to which way the wind blows in order to harness its full potential. They also work best when wind blows above a certain speed—weak winds generally don't generate much power with horizontal turbines. But despite these limitations, horizontal turbines are the most widely used turbines due to their high potential for generating lots of energy under the right conditions, making them ideal for wind farms for larger communities.

The advantage of an omnidirectional turbine is that it doesn't require wind to be blowing in a certain direction to be able to harness its power.
