As the search for sustainable water sources continues, many ground-breaking innovations have gained the attention of investors, NGOs, and interested individuals from around the world.

The Source Hydropanel is one such invention. By drawing moisture from the humidity in the atmosphere and using sunlight for condensation, these panels can provide enough drinking water in areas where there isn't any.

Key Features of the Source Hydropanel

  • Pulls water from the moisture in the atmosphere
  • Each panel can produce up to 5 Liters per day
  • Water is mineral-rich
  • Completely off-grid and energy independent
  • Relies solely on solar power
  • 15-year life span before servicing is required

Zero Mass Water is a company headquartered in Scottsdale, AZ that specializes in water purification technology. According to CEO Cody Friesen, their primary goal is to make drinking water an unlimited resource, and with the Source Hydropanel, they may have done just that.

Currently, the SOURCE Hydropanel arrays are installed in 16 countries across 5 continents providing clean water for schools, homes, businesses, orphanages, and entire communities.

How Does it Work?

Some atmospheric water generators operate by the same principle but use different technology and require a lot of energy to run. The Source Hydropanels are completely powered by sunlight and therefore operate as a standalone system without the need of an electric source.

They have built-in rotating fans that draw in air and trap it in a water-absorbing material. Here, sunlight is used to heat the trapped water, causing it to condensate and collect into a reservoir. Calcium and magnesium are then added to the water as it is exited through the line and into the drinking system.

The Hydropanels are installed on the roof of a home or building and the water line is connected directly to a faucet or any clean water outlet available. It runs completely autonomously without any maintenance needed, so it remains out of sight while clean water is continuously produced. The panels come with an app that allows the user to monitor the production of water without having to physically check on them.

Hydropanels work best in sunny environments. Amazingly, they're able to draw enough water from fairly dry climates. Given that the Hydropanels were invented in Scottsdale, AZ, a mostly desert climate, it is no wonder that the technology has been adapted to work where humidity is low. As long as the relative humidity in the atmosphere is at least 5%, water can be made. Certainly, the higher the humidity and the more sun available, the more efficiently water can be condensed.

With the best conditions, one Hydropanel can produce 5 Liters of water in a day. While each home or business will have its own customized needs, there is a 2-panel standard that is recommended for most installations. This provides enough water for 4-6 people, which is about 20 bottles of water per day. Each installation can be customized per the requirements of the home or business.

For those looking for a sustainable way to produce water in an area where a clean water source isn't readily available, the Source Hydropanels might be the perfect solution.

Summary

The Source Hydropanel is an excellent device for producing clean water in environments that lack a water source. Consistent sunlight is necessary for it to work but it can still produce water in relatively low humidity. One Hydropanel can produce up to 5 Liters in a day.
